Our Program
Organized outings, normally twice a month throughout the year. Destinations are located on the island of Montreal or within a fairly short drive off-island.
Spring outings concentrate on observing the new spring flowers and blossoms as well as migrating birds. Summer and fall features hikes to nearby parks or interesting parts of Montreal, while winter allows for skiing or snowshoeing outings to organized centers.
Hikes/walks are rated easy, fairly easy or intermediate difficulty.
There are also several shared meals held in local restaurants or local parks (our annual Pot Luck) included in our programs.
Once or twice a year, the club organizes a 2-3 day stay at an auberge, where there are a variety of hiking or ski trails available nearby.
Occasional weekend “pop-up” outings are not listed in the regular program. Notice for these events as well as for any modifications/updates of the current program are sent to members via email.
Prospective members are welcome to join an outing once or twice before committing to membership. Just contact the membership secretary at trish_philip@yahoo.ca
for specific details or to get a membership application.
Our members are mostly retired people with an interest in nature and looking to enjoy outdoor activities with similarly-minded adults
RULES OF THE ROAD FOR FIELD TRIPS
1. Contact the Coordinator several days before the outing to obtain final details for each trip. Note: please call between 9am & 9pm. In case of bad weather, the trip may be cancelled or rescheduled.
2. Tell the Coordinator if you have room in your car for passengers or if you need a lift. Passengers must be prepared to contribute towards the cost of driving which is calculated according to the distance travelled and the cost of gasoline. Passengers must be on time at the pick-up site and also for the return trip.
3 Inform the Coordinator promptly if for any reason you decide not to go on the trip.
4. Check with the Coordinator as to the degree of difficulty, and do not attempt to participate unless you are certain of your abilities. Be sure you wear suitable clothing and footwear, taking into account the presence of ticks carrying Lyme disease, and always carry plenty of liquids and extra clothing in case of a change of weather (the Coordinator can advise you).
5. If numbers must be limited, members are given priority until three days before the event.
6. The group will wait no longer than 15 minutes at the starting point of the activity so BE ON TIME.
